Touchdown, BRIDGES!

Many thanks to the volunteers, sponsors, fans, and staff who made the AIM Charity/BRIDGES Kickoff Classic a huge success! We're talking over-capacity crowds both nights, chart-toping revenue and a general good time for all for everyone who showed up. Pictured here is BRIDGES president Jim Boyd (second from left) with Kickoff Classic founders Kevin Cane, Lee Giovanetti and Tripp Folk.

This year's classic took place at the Hull-Dobbs Athletic Field at Memphis University School on two consecutive nights, Friday and Saturday, Aug. and 22. Congratulations to all four teams: Millington Central High School, Memphis University School, Milers High School and Christian Brothers High School, for participating in our most fantastic Kickoff Classic yet.

And, of course, kudos to the winning teams:
MUS - 38 vs. Millington - 0
CBHS - 20 vs. Melrose - 14

Good luck with the rest of the season! And see you at next year's Classic!

Students studying peace moved to make a difference

A group of student's from this year's BRIDGES PeaceJam Summer Leadership Institute made a presentation at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 18, that caught the attention of a reporter from WMC TV 5. The next night, Wed. Aug. 19, a segment aired on the 5 p.m. newscast featuring two of the students talking about what they learned.

The students were compelled to talk to the council after doing a project involving documenting inequity among schools in the Memphis City Schools system. The segment features lots of comments from the kids and examples of the photographs from their project. Check it out below.

Kudos to the students and PeaceJam coordinator Dana Wilson and all the organizations who partnered to make the institute happen: the National Civil Rights Museum, the Mid-South Peace and Justice Center and Memphis City Schools.

Do you have what it takes to be a leader for sustainability? BRIDGES needs YOU!

The BRIDGES Center is the first green commercial building in Memphis, and now you can experience the center like never before! Ordinary to Extraordinary: Learning & Leading Green! (O2E) uses the BRIDGES Center as a teaching tool to provide experiential, hands-on learning for a diverse group of youth and adults to become leaders for environmental sustainability. You can experience O2E with your family and friends, with your church group or corporate group, with your classmates and colleagues. You can bring the O2E expanded curriculum into your classroom or study group. Are you up to the challenge? The O2E Challenge--let's work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Memphis by 10 million pounds by 2010.
